As we come to the end of our first term, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our families – both those returning to us and those joining our school community for the first time. It has been a joy to see the school buzzing with learning, laughter, and energy once again.

One of the real highlights of the term has been meeting so many of you during our ‘Welcome to the Year’ meetings. These opportunities to come together at the start of the academic year are so important, and I am grateful to all the parents and carers who were able to attend. Your support, enthusiasm, and partnership make a huge difference to the pupils’ experience at school, and it was lovely to begin building those connections for the year ahead.

As we look forward to the next term, I’m excited about all that we will achieve together. Thank you, as always, for your continued support in making our school such a warm, welcoming, and thriving place for every child.

Our Reception classroom was fizzing with excitement as we welcomed parents and carers to our much-loved “Stay and Play” session. It was a heartwarming event filled with smiles and shared experiences, as parents and carers joined their little ones for a glimpse into their daily school life.

These sessions are more than just play, they’re a chance to strengthen the bridge between home and school and to see firsthand how your children learn through play. Pupils especially enjoyed sharing their space with their parents/carers – enthusiastically taking them on a guided tour!

Mrs Greenbank’s Year 3 Musicians have been learning new notes on the recorder before playing them in different rhythms. Pupils learn how to read music as well as play, and Mrs Greenbank has been introducing pupils to musical notations so they can follow their own pieces. Well done everyone!

Year 6 have been working on a computer systems and networks topic. In the below practical lesson, pupils considered communication and collaboration – put simply, to show how data is transferred across the internet. Pupils had great fun creating data messages in ‘packets’ and ensuring their messages (data) was transferred to the correct recipients (website/address)

Year 4 pupils have been exploring conductors and insulators in their science lessons. In the featured lesson pupils successfully completed circuits with a power source, bulb and connecting wires before incorporating a number of items into the circuit to test if they would let electricity pass through them as conductors – or if not, insulators. Pupils then recorded their findings in a scientific table! Great work!

Year 1 is making the transition from play-based learning to a mixed approach, classroom curricular lessons such as maths, phonetics and English in the morning, and in the afternoon, we continue the themes we have learned but with play-led activities. Miss Bridges set up a carousel of fun ‘stations’ at each table for pupils to choose from. As you can see from the photos this approach is very popular and allows pupils to practise their learning and develop skills.

Mrs Cooper’s Year 5 class have been exploring life stages from infancy to elderly in their current Science topic. In this practical lesson we took part in a scientific investigation – What is the relationship between our arm spam and our overall height? Pupils first wrote a scientific prediction and then a conclusion following the investigation … that our arm span is approximately equal to height, and this arm span/height relationship is a fundamental aspect of human anatomy with significant implications for health and medical practice. Well done everyone!

Year 2 pupils have had a wonderful term of exploration and creativity on their Art Earth topic.  Across the term, the children have used natural resources and been inspired by the natural world. Pupils have explored different ways of painting on rocks and have made sculptures with sticks and plasticine. The pupils also enjoyed making animal pictures from leaves and weaving with natural materials. In the photographed lesson we were making a collage to represent the seasonal changes in Autumn.

Congratulations to all the children who took part in the recent football tournament. The children came first place in their group and drew against a really tough team. In the quarter finals they played brilliantly and drew with Wentworth. In the semi-finals the children drew, but won on fantastic penalties. In the final, they played against Manor and drew again, but went on to win in the tense penalty shoot-out. Finally, the children went on to win the amazing trophy that we are displaying so proudly in our school. We are very proud of the fantastic team effort!

As we step into November, we are excited to support Movember, a global movement dedicated to raising awareness about men’s health, including mental health, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. This initiative encourages conversations and actions that can make a real difference in the lives of men and their families.
