Term 3 Newsletter – February 2026

What a wonderfully active term it’s been! The school has been buzzing with movement, teamwork and a real sense of sporting spirit. From our girls’ football team showing fantastic determination on the pitch, to the excitement of Years 4 and 5 training with the Chelsea Youth Squad, it’s been inspiring to see so many children embracing new challenges with confidence.

Year 4 have also been putting their problem‑solving skills to the test by programming their own pedometers to measure steps, a perfect blend of computing and healthy living. Add to that the enthusiasm around our Bikability sessions, and it’s clear that our pupils are finding lots of ways to stay active, learn new skills and enjoy the outdoors.

Lunchtimes have been just as lively, with children making great use of our growing collection of sports equipment. Whether it’s table tennis rallies, hoops, footballs, or bikes, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and plenty of opportunities to burn off energy in positive ways.

I’m incredibly proud of the effort, teamwork and joy our pupils bring to every activity. I hope you enjoy reading more about these highlights in this term’s newsletter.

Our Reception pupils are currently reading Stick Man by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler and have been enjoying lots of activities to support their learning. Pupils and teaching staff foraged for sticks in our grounds to make our own stick men with coloured wool and string! Other accompanying activities included matching the right gingerbread men to their houses and putting animals into a frame (adding one more!) in maths.

Year 2 pupils have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Great Fire of London! They have been really engaged, remembering key historic facts and taking part in every activity with gusto! Pictured below, Mrs Greenback’s music activity saw pupils composing and playing musical accompaniments to represent the fire growing from a small ember to roaring fire.

Our Year 1 pupils have been busy building confidence and independence during Provision Time. This is a special part of the day where children revisit skills from previous lessons and apply their knowledge through fun, hands‑on activities.

Our learning ‘stations’ offered plenty of exciting challenges, including:

  • Typing tricky words
  • Rolling dice to create additional calculations
  • Making words in a wordsearch
  • Matching facts to our historic figures (this cycle it’s Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong)

The class showed fantastic focus, and Miss Bridges was especially impressed by how enthusiastically everyone tackled the wordsearch. Children spotted lots of familiar words and even discovered some new ones along the way.

Year 4 pupils have enjoyed a very interactive computer science lesson! Pupils have coded and made their own pedometer with a programme to count their steps. This is a highly engaging topic combining computer science, maths and PE learning. We are now able to measure our steps, calculate average steps and consider why walking can support overall health!

Chelsea Youth Squad visited us in January for a thrilling training session with our Years 5. As part of their Player Development Programme Chelsea Youth coaches took our pupils through their paces providing small group coaching in technique and team play – a brilliantly fun session which we all enjoyed! Year 4 will have the opportunity at a later date.

Our Year 5 & 6 Girls’ Football Team are refining their skills and building competitive match experience in a series of matches with local primary schools. This term our team played Bean Primary in a great display of professionalism and team spirit! On this occasion we were unlucky with the scoreline 2:4 to Bean – Mr White would like to congratulate the side for their tenacity, we will continue training and look forward to our next match!

Mrs Keech and her Year 3 pupils have been studying Ancient Egypt as their current Geography topic. In the featured English lesson pupils have been extending their learning by researching facts about the river Nile and incorporating their found facts into an English report. Great work everyone!

Year 4 Community Litter Pick. Mr White and the Year 4 class enjoyed a trip out in Wilmington this week, taking part in a community litter pick. The children worked together to collect rubbish from around the local area, helping to keep our community clean and tidy. This activity also supported our recycled art topic, giving the children a real understanding of how everyday waste can be reused in creative ways. They showed great teamwork, enthusiasm, and care for their environment, we’re very proud of them.

Miss Finch and her Year 6 pupils have been studying the human heart as part of their Science topic. In the English lesson pictured below, pupils worked on creating a scientific report detailing the function of the heart ensuring the use of key grammar and punctuation to produce a technical and concise introduction.

Year 6 worked on a creative arts project, designing, making and decorating a pot or vase to their own specification. Miss Finch and Mrs Assender thoroughly enjoyed assessing their beautiful pieces.

Bikeability. Pupils across Year 5 & 6 took part in Bikeability cycle training with specialist coaches. Pupils learned basic bike handling and control skills including how to check and maintain their bike. It was a fun session designed to not only share safety and control skills but to build confidence and good judgement when cycling on the road. Good work everyone!

Bikeability cycle training equips children with vital life skills. Pupils not only learn to cycle, they gain independence, social skills and a sense of wellbeing. After Bikeability, children are better at responding to risk and report increased confidence. As a result, more children cycle to school which in turn improves mental health and wellbeing. This allows children to get more out of the classroom, improving their attention span and engagement. Healthier habits lead to increased attendance and improved academic results.

Become a School Governor. Our school governing bodies represent different groups of people who have an interest in the school: staff, parents and the community. Serving as a school governor is a highly rewarding experience, offering numerous personal and professional benefits.  If you a looking for an opportunity to use your experience and skills to help make a difference within your local community and to help shape people’s futures, please contact governance@endeavour-mat.co.uk for further information on the role of school governor at Endeavour MAT.
