Term 4 Newsletter – April 2025

There have been so many activities and occasions to celebrate over the course of this busy term, a selection of which are included below! We continue to enhance the pupils’ playground and outside spaces providing opportunities for all children to let their imagination, creativity and sense of fun shine! New equipment is proving exceptionally popular, and I hope to develop our facilities and equipment further next term.
World Book Day is a celebration of reading and all things books. At Wilmington Primary, we have an embedded culture to support the love of imaginative storytelling and reading for pleasure. Pupils and staff celebrated World Book Day, bringing stories to life by dressing up as their favourite literary characters and taking part in lots of special activities, and as you can see from the photos it was a brilliantly fun day!
Our Year 2 pupils have been using percussion instruments to compose a special Superhero soundtrack to accompany a story. Pupils considered whether their piece should be fast or slow, loud or quiet to suit their Superhero creep through a dark and scary tunnel!! Mrs Greenbank was very impressed with their work!
Glittery fingers for Year 2 as they designed and made fabulously imaginative finger puppets! Pictured below pupils proudly showing of their finished creations. A great activity targeting fine motor skills, creative expression and language skills.
How lovely are these Year 3 Mother’s Day Cards? Pupils took extra care with their artwork and message to create beautiful oil pastel artworks for their loved ones! I hope you all enjoyed receiving them!
Our talented musicians and singers put so much work and effort into making the Spring Concert such a success! It was the first Wilmington Primary musical showcase I have attended and I certainly wasn’t disappointed, everyone who took part gave a consummate performance. The whole concert was an incredibly joyous and uplifting event, well done everyone and thank you to all parents and carers for supporting your children in their efforts and on the night!
Pictured below, a selection of musicians rehearsing their pieces ahead of the big concert! As well as images from their whole-school performance … and you might spot a few additional guest musicians, on guitar and bass!
Year 5 have been deepening their knowledge of the Vikings and Saxons with a series of very interactive lessons ahead of their school trip! The photos don’t reflect the power of the Viking attack song or the stoic nature of the Saxon’s response!
To further their knowledge on the Saxons … and to have lots of fun in the process Year 5 travelled to Kent Life for their immersive Saxons day – there were many highlights, not least of which was the tractor ride!
Year 1. As part of our Weather topic, Miss Bridges’ class took part in a fun creative activity to make a working windsock! Pupils then fixed them to a tree on our grounds to gauge the wind direction, and ask, does the wind always blow in the same direction? Great work everyone!
Year 4 Recycled Art Project. To mark Global Recylcing Day Pupils have been utilising objects and packages from around school to give them a new lease of life as 3D animal sculpture art! Pupils showed great resourcefulness, seeing opportunity not waste in discarded boxes around school!
Year 6 Artists really enjoyed working on their wire sculptures. Mrs Cooper’s brief was for pupils to express body language through their sculpted 3D figures. Pupils first created sketches to get their brains thinking about how the human body moves and how that can express emotion before creating their sculptures.
Year 6 continued their topic of self-expression by creating a micrography self-portrait. These use the concept of line and font to create artworks that express the personality and uniqueness of the pupil entirely out of text. As you can see, pupils perfectly captured their personality likeness in word and image!
Pupils have been learning valuable cycling and road safety skills as part of their Bikeability Level 1 certificate. Pupils were coached in;
- Maintain your cycle: make sure your ride is in tip-top condition and make simple repairs
- Glide: smooth, calm and collected
- Control your bike: including setting off, cruising, slowing down, braking and stopping. You’ll even learn to pedal one handed!
- Pedal: without feeling wobbly or out of control
- Be aware of your surroundings: looking behind and turning around obstacles
Our new Wilmington Primary School ‘Values’ Poster! These values are reflected across school in everything we do, and stand for!
